Nike is participate in the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) organized World Refugee Day (WRD). As a UNHCR supporter, Nike is recognizing the work that UNHCR does for refugees and children all over the world. On June 20th, WRD events are intended to remind people of the human need for protection. Whether protection comes in the form of economic security or freedom from violent persecution, on WRD, UNHCR and Nike turn the world’s attention to the millions of refugees who live in urgent need of material, social and legal protection.
UNHCR and Nike have been partners in numerous aid projects since 2003. Through Nike’s support of UNHCR’s program, ninemillion.org which brings sport and education to millions of refugee youth, UNHCR has distributed Nike apparel, product and equipment to refugee youth throughout the world. Most recently, Nike announced that ninemillion.org will be one of the three global charities for the Nike+ Human Race.
Nike encourages you to help show your support for the numerous programs created by UNHCR and Nike that help improve the lives and protect refugees all over the world. Here are a few simple actions that you can take to support WRD on June 20th:
- Become a fan of UNHCR on Facebook, support the cause and share videos, photos and the latest news with your friends.
- Upload pictures of the “protecting hands” to the fan photos section.
- Become a WRD friend on MySpace.
- Suggest staff, friends and family add the following tagline to their electronic signature to promote WRD:
