NIKE MAKES GENEROUS DONATION

UO TO CREATE ADAPTIVE SPORTS CLUB

Nike is taking Track and Field competition to another level. In conjunction with World Wheelchair Sports and the University of Oregon, Nike recently purchased six state of the art Track and Field wheelchairs. The new equipment, valued at $15,000, was purchased as part of the global Let Me Play program that seeks to provide access to sports for all athletes.

"At Nike, we live by the words ‘if you have a body, you are an athlete,'" said Danielle Killpack, Nike’s Director of Community Involvement for Oregon. "This donation is a perfect example of that and honors the hard work these alternately abled athletes put into their sport."

The university plans to create the Adaptive Sports Club next year. The team may participate in events such as wheelchair racing, tennis, basketball and hand cycling.

"The early student enthusiasm and the generous gift of equipment from Nike enable the team to have a great opportunity to gain momentum and be successful," said Sandy Vaughn, Club Sports coordinator.
